  • Year 10 Cardin Mill Valley

    Wed 27 Sep 2023

📍 Year 10 Geography Trip to Carding Mill Valley - Nature's Classroom 📍

Our Year 10 geographers recently embarked on an adventure to Carding Mill's river, we timed the trip to perfection, with the only rain falling whilst we were on the coach. All our students contributed to the data collection about the rivers characteristics as part of their GCSE fieldwork.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing the common land ponies grazing along the river.

    Well done Year 10.

  • Year 10 GCSE Drama

    Fri 15 Sep 2023

Yesterday our Year 10 GCSE Drama students were lucky enough to receive tickets to go to The Regent Theatre to see "Ocean at the end of the Lane". This was a great opportunity for students to get out to the theatre and enjoy a live performance. All students were enthusiastic and open minded about seeing a performance involving fantasy and puppets and loved every second of it. We can't wait to see what show is next!

  • School Games GOLD Mark Award

    Thu 27 Jul 2023

We are delighted to announce that we, The King's Church of England Academy have achieved the School Games GOLD Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

With a total of 403 young people competing in local inter-school competitions and extra-curricular clubs this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

  • Year 6 Transition Week

    Mon 10 Jul 2023

Over the last 2 weeks, Year 6 students joining us September have attended a transition week. The students were able to participate in a variety of lessons and become more familiar with the academy building as well as the staff. The students were brilliant, and thoroughly enjoyed the week. We are really looking forward to welcoming them into our school community in September.

    We also had some brilliant feedback from parents;

"I think the whole transition was amazing it was nice for them to go 4 days to get to know teachers and learning her way around the school"

"From the outside as a parent it appeared well organised with appropriate timings given to students. There was a good balance between fun, learning, pastoral and test time for my daughter to enjoy but also take time to reflect."

"Everything went well and we were well informed of the process. Spending time with his form tutor was beneficial. Having a type of time table given them to get used to ready for September. Spending 4 days at the school was very good as I know some schools do not offer this many days."

"Well organised, children made welcome and part of the school community"

  • Northwood Athletics

    Tue 13 Jun 2023

On Tuesday the 12th of June, 40 students from The King's went off to compete in the Northwood Junior athletics, competing against 8 other schools across the district in 28 degrees. Safe to say they all listened in their sun safe lessons and returned to school unscathed by the sun. Despite the heat, our students were determined to run the 1500m and the 800m events and every single student finished the race, showing real strength both physically and psychologically. A specially mention to Corey B who ran a fantastic race, maintaining a strong pace throughout the race and just missing out on medal position and coming in 4th. Chris F put in an amazing performance even though he sustained an injury during the race he carried on and we are very proud of him.

Medal winners for the day, for the Kings were Max B, James S, Dayangku N and a special mention to Nnenna A for winning a Gold medal in Shot Putt. All these athletes have now qualified to represent the Newcastle District in the Staffordshire County Athletics Championships and we will be sure to let you know how they did.

  • U16 Netball Tournament

    Fri 09 Jun 2023

Before the half term break, some of our students competed in the U16 netball tournament which was a fantastic day out at Keele University.

Our Year 10 and Year 9 team made the decision to enter into the tournament even though they were not officially the U16 team and they did us proud. Our Year 10 team won 4 games, drew 1 game and lost 1. Which means we would have been joint second. However, the team who we drew against placed 2nd based on goal difference so just missed out on getting the medals.

An amazing 38 goals were scored over 6 games by Olivia and Megan. A shoutout to Ruth who had a fantastic performance in every game. The team were dedicated to the last minute and after playing 2 hours of netball (6 x 20 minute games) they won their last game 12-2.

Year 9 team were brilliant and definitely a lot younger than the rest but that did not stop them. They only had 1 sub and then sadly losing a player to injury they were down to 7 players on their last game. They walked onto the court for their final game valiantly fought against the older opposition and won their last game by a whopping 14-4! Samia and Emily scored all our goals.

Congratulations to both of our teams and all the hard work and effect that has gone into the tournament as well as the practice sessions.

  • U14 Netball Tournament

    Tue 23 May 2023

The Year 8's recently spent the day at Keele University competing in the regional Netball tournament. There were 7 teams involved and the students played 6 x 20-minute games and with a full team and 3 subs it was very physically demanding but our students did great.

They came up against some players that compete for the county and that did not phase them. There were many goals scored and players really stepped up, a special mention to Nnenna who often won players player (nominated by the other team every game) and Sophie, without a doubt played the best she has ever played.

Overall, the students who represented The King's were amazing, and their sportsmanship was top notch. The winners of the tournament were fantastic, but when we played them by half time it was 2-2, the second half seen them score a few more goals then us, but our students walked away very impressed with themselves and stated that next year, with everyone committing to training they have a chance at placing, and maybe even winning.

  • Mental Health Support Team

    Thu 18 May 2023

It is wonderful to see our Sixth Form at The King’s students 'embracing' learning experiences to last a lifetime.' We wanted to share with you the programme that Ms Williams has been running with some of our Sixth Form students and the Mental Health Support Team.

This was a pilot scheme set up by the Mental Health Support Team and our school was chosen to run the first course of this kind. The course has ran every Monday for the last 10 weeks and we will be rolling this out again to the new starters in our Sixth Form from September 2023.

On that note, we are super proud to share that:

Saher and Kadie have successfully completed the course and were awarded with a voucher and certificate for their efforts.

They have been a real credit to our school and represented the Sixth Form to a very high standard.

The two Sixth Form students will be taking an active role in becoming mental health ambassadors for our school community.

  • The JJ Effect

    Mon 17 Apr 2023

Just before the Easter break we were extremely lucky to have Byron (the JJ Effect) come in and work with both our Year 8 and 9 students.

Byrons approach is to talk to young people in an accessible way. They use hard hitting and real descriptions, video and stories to drive the message home about knife crime and had a huge impact on our students. Byron spoke about the limited time we have at school, 5 short years, 5 years that will ultimately effect the rest of our lives. If we want the nice things in life we have to put the work in now.

Byron talks about his very real experience about his own brother and he didn't dress it down, it was very real and very raw. An example of how life can turn out based on the choices we make. Our students were moved with many wanting to speak to him after, if for nothing more then to say thank you for sharing his story.

If you'd like too know a little more please check out the JJ Effect website https://thejjeffect.org/ or through youtube: https://youtu.be/gTT61u43Q-o

  • The Good News of Holy Week and Easter

    Fri 07 Apr 2023

The Good News of Holy Week and Easter were celebrated at the end of last week at The King's Church of England Academy. Worship Assemblies focused on the theme of 'Suffering and the Glory', both in the Academy and by each Year Group attending a service at St Thomas' Church.

They remembered that Jesus came into Jerusalem riding a donkey as the people celebrated with palm branches. Jesus humbly washed the disciple's feet at the Last Supper, and then prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane as he faced his time of suffering and death. In St Thomas's Church, Rev. Iain Baker explained that justice had to be satisfied - but Jesus, out of love for us, took upon himself the punishment our sins deserve when he died upon the cross - as we remember on Good Friday. But the suffering he endured was to bring him glory, as he rose again from the dead and appeared to his disciples on Easter morning.

May we all know more of that glory for ourselves as we celebrate Holy Week and Easter.
