• The King's Sports Day

  On Friday 24^th June, The King's Church of England Academy had a fantastic day hosting Sports Day. 

  All students in Years 7 - 10 had the opportunity to compete in a variety of sporting activities including benchball, korfball, rounders, table tennis and tug of war. 

   

  Mr Watson & Mr Coxon were instrumental in organising and delivering the benchball tournaments to all year groups which resulted in some extremely exciting and competitive matches. The tournament was also officiated by some of our very helpful sixth form students who are currently studying Level 3 OCR Sport and Physical Activity. The students thoroughly enjoyed working as part of a team with their chapter groups developing their communication, teamwork and problem solving skills whilst being cheered on by their very competitive chapter leaders and peers from the side-lines! 

   

  In a slightly calmer environment, Mr Baxter and Mrs Keay provided students with a table tennis tournament where four students from each chapter were required to represent their chapter. This was also supported by a number of our helpful sixth form students who were fantastic officials throughout the day. Students were able to develop their table tennis skills and techniques whilst applying them to competitive situations. Some exceptional sporting performances were demonstrated throughout the day by the students involved.

   

  Meanwhile, outside on the astro turf, Mrs Berrisford and her rounders team consisting of Mrs Hinchcliffe, Mrs Finnemore and Miss Butler provided students with an unforgettable rounders tournament providing them with the opportunity to apply the skills they have developed within their rounders PE lessons to competitive situations. The atmosphere was buzzing and students were very eager to win! Special thanks also goes out to our sixth form students who were outstanding in terms of assisting the teachers with the organisation of games, timing and scoring. 

   

  At the same time, Mr Worthington did a superb job of running the Korfball tournament on the MUGA, educating the students on the rules of the game whilst motivating them to success! 

  The support of Mr Barber and sixth form students was also instrumental in organising the scoring, officiating and supervision of students. 

   

  The day ended with the whole of the school, both staff and students, coming together to compete in the Tug of War. This event was the perfect close to the day, showcasing The King's values of celebration, aspiration, trust and thankfulness. This was a fantastic event which consisted of four Tug of war competitions taking place in unison, whilst chapter leaders and students cheered their chapter groups to success. It was an absolute pleasure to see the positive relationships between staff and students and the sheer pride that students and staff have in representing our school. Following on from the students competitions, the whole staff and student body were then informed that there would be a staff Tug of War! This was an extrememly competitive event between the staff which demonstrated how competitive our staff body really are with neither team wanting to lose! The students were cheering on the staff and were so excited to see their teachers taking part! 

   

  Once all of the points from the day were accumulated from our fantastic Maths team consisting of Mrs Turner, Mrs Boon and Mrs Moody, it was revealed that the overall winners were Mark! 

   

  A fantastic day all round and one in which the whole of the academy are very looking forward to already for next year! 

   

   

  

• Financial Literacy

  Today Mrs Turner and our Year 7 Financial Literacy Ambassadors, George and Evie, took a visit to St Thomas’ Primary Academy. Here George and Evie helped to support with the delivery of a problem-solving financial literacy session. They encouraged students to take a systematic approach to their answers, drawing on their prior mathematical knowledge of basic numeracy in order to solve the real-life problems. 

   

  Both students represented our school incredibly well and demonstrated excellent leadership skills! For their fantastic effort they have earned themselves the Pride of The King’s Reward with 200 points, well done George and Evie!
