Welcome

Discovering Life in all its Fullness

Additional qualifications

Alongside their A levels/ BTECS, Sixth Formers also extend their knowledge and add a new dimension to their learning by completing a range of online qualifications. Both VQTs and MOOCs are a great way to develop skills and knowledge; they can be added to personal statements to demonstrate commitment to a topic, and also show that a student has gone the extra mile reading around their subject.

VTQs

In Year 12, students are given the opportunity to complete three accredited training courses which will prepare them, practically, for the work place. Throughout the year, students have the opportunity to complete the following qualifications:

  1. Basic First Aid Level 2 (VTQ)

  2. Food Safety Level 2 (VTQ)

  3. Mental Health in the Workplace Level 2 (VTQ) OR Health and Safety in the Workplace Level 2 (VTQ)

"completing the VTQ in Food Safety helped me to secure my part time job" - Alec H

"I have really enjoyed completing the First Aid course...it ties in perfectly with my health and social care course and means I am better equipped to apply for jobs in the future" Charlotte L

Each of the above VTQs is supplemented by a one day, hands-on practical session, led by a fully qualified expert. Over the course of the day, students are able to apply their theoretical learning to real life situations, developing their confidence and skills in each of these fields.

MOOCs

MOOCs are offered by universities from all around the world. There are thousands of courses on offer, covering a vast range of subjects.

MOOCs are readily accessible and enable many students to develop their education, knowledge and skills. The extra dimension they add to Sixth Form education is particularly beneficial; courses can enhance and extend learning, or allow students to do something new, such as learning a language.

In addition to this, completion of these courses look fantastic on UCAS, apprenticeship and job applications. Click on the link below to discover the courses available.

Below is a selection of courses suggested to our students linking to the subjects they are currently studying.

How will online course time be allocated?

Sixth Form students will…

  • put aside 1 study period per week to complete a chosen MOOC/ VQT course

  • complete any additional study time at home

  • liaise with form tutors to update on progress regularly – at least once each half term

Here's what some of our students say about the courses:

"completing the courses in my own time means I can work at my own pace. It's really rewarding when you complete the qualification and obtain a certificate at the end!" Lena H
