Here are some more images from the 'Down the Rabbit Hole' event last week ran by Appetite

904 people came to the event over the two days and 1275 watched our live stream. with feedback such as:

“Best 15 minutes of my life”

“that was ace, that was – thanks”

    “thank you, that was brilliant”

    “thanks for an amazing experience”

“the kids did not want to leave”

Thank you to Appetite for letting some of our students work on this project, giving them learning experiences to last a life time. We are looking forward to working together in the future.

  • Down the Rabbit Hole - Prep

    Wed 29 Mar 2023

Wonderful to see students 'embracing' learning experiences to last a lifetime.

Some of our students were lucky enough to be involved in the 'Down the Rabbit Hole' event at Harecastle Tunnel last weekend ran by Appetite.

Here are some photos of the students prepping for the light displays that were along the canal. The students did an amazing job!

  • JCB Visit

    Thu 09 Mar 2023

This morning we have welcomed Lisa Gamble, a former pupil into the academy to talk to our students about her successes since leaving us. She is now working at JCB and completing her Business Management Degree as part of her apprenticeship with the company. She is a true inspiration to our students and has shared some important messages about how she has got where she is. Lisa also brought along a Red Oak Tree and plaque which we have proudly planted in our school grounds as a reminder of all her messages

  • Head of Year - Rewards

    Thu 09 Mar 2023

Every half term our Heads of Year hold a rewards breakfast or afternoon tea for the top 20 students with the most positive points in their year group.

It was great to celebrate last half term with some familiar faces as well as new ones, points are counted for that half term alone so any student can be in the top 20 as long as they are demonstrating our CORE expectations and our behaviours we value.

As a parent you can keep an eye on your child's ClassCharts to see how they are doing.

We can't wait to see who we will be celebrating with at the end of this half term.

  • Anti Bullying Ambassadors

    Mon 06 Mar 2023

One of the first positive actions that the Anti Bullying Ambassadors have put into place is a Friday lunch time Wellbeing club.

The Anti Bullying ambassadors want to provide a safe space for these students to 'hang out', play board games and get to know others across the school and make new friends, to be a part of something where they feel safe and included.

  • Bee Active - Level 1 Sports Leader Award

    Fri 03 Mar 2023

Over the past 7 weeks a number of our students have been involved in an action-packed programme of learning and development provided by Bee Active. Students have had the opportunity to learn and demonstrate important life and leadership skills whilst delivering fun and engaging physical activities. They have planned, led and evaluated sports/physical activity sessions and demonstrated their leadership skills as part of an assessment accumulating in them achieving their nationally accredited Level 1 Sports Leader Award. Students were then invited to volunteer at Bee Active’s February Half Term Holiday Club putting their new skills into action. After successful completion, students have now been presented with the opportunity to progress onto their Level 2 which can feed into further education and a potential career pathway.

We are extremely proud of our students who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to gaining their Level 1 qualification, saying 'Yes!' to an opportunity which has now provided them with invaluable employability skills, life experiences and skills.

Well done to all of our students who were involved in this programme!

  • Illuminos Project

    Wed 01 Mar 2023

Learning experiences that last a lifetime. A number of our Year 10 IT students were fortunate to experience a chance in a lifetime opportunity, to work with Illuminos, on a project entitled 'Down the Rabbit Hole'. Illuminos is an incredibly successful company who span the world, designing and creating high quality artwork of people, site and animation.

Engaging with state-of-the-art technology and up-to-date programs, the students have used Adobe Photoshop and After Effects to support a community project that, will be projected on Harecastle Tunnel for the community to enjoy.

Our students created some fantastic animations in a very short period of time using software that would ordinarily, only be used by experts in the industry.
