  • Northwood Senior Athletics Success

    Tue 17 May 2022

A total of 43 students from Year 9 & 10 represented The King's in the Newcastle Borough District inter-school athletics event. This required each students to take part in a range of athletic events, coming up against the very best competitors from local schools.

In a large event that required maturity and independence, our students' behaviour, attitude and sporting values were exceptional. It was pleasure to be staffing a group of students with a real togetherness and willingness to encourage their peers within each event. This team spirit contributed towards many resilient and hardworking performances -- especially within the distance events.

Despite fierce competition, three of our students managed to emerge as medallists, and subsequently qualify to represent The King's in the County Finals.

Lucas W placed 1st , picking up a gold medal in the U15 Discus.

Rhianna W placed 1st , picking up a gold medal in the U15 Long Jump.

Connell L placed 3rd, picking up a bronze medal in the U17 Javelin.

This is an OUTSTANDING achievement, congratulations!

Well done to everyone who participated.

  • Mental Health Awareness Week

    Mon 16 May 2022

As last week was Mental Health Awareness Week, some of our Sixth Form students, Charlotte, Megan and Connor, raised funds and awareness for Young Minds by dressing as Super Mario characters and selling ribbons within the Academy - proceeds will go to Young Minds.

They also promoted the Academy's safeguarding team so that students are reminded about where they can access help as and when they need it.

In one day they raised £121.40 for Young Minds.

Well done to Charlotte, Megan and Connor.

Year 9 were involved in the 'Elite Skills Academy' recently. It involved a careers talk about the diverse pathway's students could follow in the British Army. After the session all Year 9 completed a range of different problem solving and team work exercises! It was a great day for all involved! Thank you so much.

If you were inspired by the day's events and would like to learn more, please contact Mr Hinchcliffe as we now have the opportunity to send The King's students on a week's residential work experience with the British Army!

We are delighted to have had Carol Shanahan OBE owner of Port Vale FC to visit The Kings Academy.  Carol had a tour of the school and lunch to see the work we do here at The Kings.

We continue to grow our partnership with Port Vale FC and Port Vale Foundation.

  • U13 Netball Tournament

    Fri 06 May 2022

Yesterday the Year 8 netball team played fantastically at Keele University. We played 7 x 20 minute games against some really tough schools but the girls persevered.

Some fantastic shooting from Samia and Emily. The player of the tournament for the Kings was Adina, demonstrating fantastic speed and agility around the ball, intercepting many of the oppositions passes. In their Final game, when they were super tired, they managed to win 11-3.

Mrs Wilkinson said "As a teacher it was an absolute joy to take them on this all day fixture and witness their resilience and determination to do their best, but most of all their sportsmanship!"

    Well done!

  • Year 7 MFL Competition

    Wed 04 May 2022

Over the last month our Year 7 students have been busy submitting their entries for the MFL monster design competition. This involved inventing, designing and creating a monster before describing it in French or Spanish showing off their knowledge and understanding of descriptive adjectives covered in their MFL lessons. The MFL department have been completely blown away by the effort, enthusiasm and creativity of the entries that we have received which have far surpassed anything submitted in previous years. Overall we have received a grand total of 36 entries of an incredibly high standard which has made it very difficult to choose our winners to say the least. However, after much deliberation please see below for photos of all entries, the winning entries and the winners with their prizes. These six winners also had the honour of taking their creations down to show Mr Wilson for this week's Meet the Principal session. Thank you to everyone who took part. Félicitations ! ¡felicidades!
