Visit from the Bishop

Richard Marshall was licensed as chaplain for The King’s Academy this morning in a short service. Students from Years 10 and 11 heard a short message on the parable of the Lost Sheep given by Rt Rev Matthew Parker, the Bishop of Stafford, who then read out the official letter of licensing. This gives Richard authority to act as an ordained Church of England minister in the Academy, and across the Diocese of Lichfield.

Given the timing of the occasion, Bishop Matthew noted that Richard had been required to swear allegiance to the new King Charles III prior to the service, as well as to the Bishop of Lichfield, his heirs and successors. At the close of the service Richard led those present in a prayer of thanksgiving for Queen Elizabeth II, for the Royal family, and for all who will have to plan for the changes required now that the succession has happened.  Bishop Matthew then concluded with a prayer for God’s blessing.
