Options Process

Key Date: Thursday 13th February 2025

Year 9 Options Evening

Welcome to the options page. Students select their option choices at the end of Year 9, choosing up to two additional subjects to supplement the core curriculum offer. The Options booklet is your guide to the Key Stage 4 curriculum at The King’s Academy. In the booklet you will find a description of the courses that may be offered for study in September 2025. The courses we offer vary slightly for each cohort to ensure that we meet the aspirations and aptitudes of each student.

The options booklet will be published in February 2025 and provides as much detail as possible on each course to ensure that students are able to make well informed choices that will lead to them being as successful as possible in their studies.

We feel it is vitally important that as a school, we provide a ‘broad and balanced’ curriculum. We want to open as many doors as possible for students which is why we construct our curriculum so that all students have the opportunity to study all components of the English Baccalaureate (English, Mathematics, Science, a Modern Foreign Language and a Humanities subject – either History or Geography), alongside other option subjects that are intended to nurture their love of learning.

Please take careful note of the "Planning your Future" page below as it gives some useful advice on how option choices can impact upon A’ level / BTEC, and ultimately degree level, choices in the future.

No student is able to leave education or training at the age of 16 anymore, but A Levels don’t suit everyone. Students will soon have two distinct choices at age 16: an academic route or a technical route. The academic route is well known: A-Levels designed to prepare students for university courses in the main. The new alternative is the technical T-Levels, which we hope to be offering in the near future. More details can be found on the Sixth Form page.

Enquiries relating to the options process should be directed to Mrs Boon, Vice Principal, in the first instance: lboon@thekingscofeacademy.org
