Gambia 2023
#TeamGambia
The Kings CofE Academy is working alongside St Thomas’ primary and the Rotary club of Kidsgrove in a joint-venture to support a village in the Gambia. The Academies and the Rotary club have a strong relationship built upon supporting the local community and they are now planning to broaden this to an international level through supporting the village of Baro Kunda in the Gambia.
The venture works on three levels. Firstly there is the Kings Academy visit to the Gambia so the students can experience what The Gambia has to offer firsthand, the beauty of Africa and the reality of poverty. They will experience culture and be advocates of the Academy values within different communities.
Secondly, St Thomas’ primary Academy, The Kings CofE Academy and the Rotary club will work on a number of fundraising and collection events in order to support the purchase of required equipment, seeking sponsorship from local companies and collecting different items to take over to the Academy and village with the Gambia team on their visit.
Lastly, the team is currently in the process of applying to the Rotary club for a Global grant for a Humanitarian project. Through global grants, awarded by The Rotary Foundation, clubs and districts participate in strategically focused, high-impact activities. This is what we hope to achieve and our area of focus is water and sanitation, the goals are:
Provide equitable community access to safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene
Strengthen the ability of communities to develop, fund, and maintain sustainable water and sanitation systems
Support programs that enhance communities’ awareness of the benefits of safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene
Support studies for career-minded professionals related to water and sanitation.
Alongside this we are raising funds to provide aqua boxes to the village.
