This term’s ‘Watch me Learn’ took place in the English department where a number of Year 7 parents were invited into the Academy to engage with the fantastic learning experiences that our students are provided with on a daily basis. 

Across the week, a plethora of key skills and knowledge were developed in each lesson.  

In one class, students travelled to Athens, immersing themselves with one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, A Midsummers Night’s Dream. Using inference and decoding skills, students analysed the linguistic devices used by Shakespeare in order to present Hermia and Demetrius.

Students in another Year 7 lesson worked in groups to design and create a presentation based on the Christmas Day Truce as part of their learning for War Horse.  As well as demonstrating their understanding of the historical context, students were challenged to use a range of rhetorical devices to engage their audience.

Finally, homelessness posters were the focus of learning for some learners where students examined a range of non fictional adverts, considering how the writer has used emotive language in order to evoke empathy from their audience.

Learning for both students and parents alike has been most memorable; we are confident that once again, we have ‘created learning experiences which will last a lifetime’.
