Sixth formers can choose to be reading mentors, working with our Year 7 students in school to support and develop their fluency and comprehension of books.

Students are fully trained by the SENCO in school and shown how to effectively structure a reading session so that their reading buddy makes progress. They will be taught how to monitor their progress and decide what to teach them next.

Sessions take part in chapter times twice days a week for 10 weeks at a time.

This role is an important one and can make a massive difference to the life chances of the students they are working with. Last year, sixth formers have helped younger students improve their reading ages by an amazing 10 months in 10 weeks!
