Sixth Form students are role models for the rest of the school and are expected to uphold and embody the standards expected of students in lower years. This means that members of the Sixth Form must maintain consistently high personal standards of dress and smartness of appearance.

We aim to nurture a strong sense of maturity in all our students. Part of this requires that we ask them to practice taking their responsibilities seriously each day as they prepare for their learning. We expect our students to dress with pride, in a conservative manner appropriate for an educational setting.

The aim is for students to be guided by the principles of appropriate smart dress. There should be a clear distinction between what is worn in the evening, on holiday or at the weekend and what is worn during the working week. We expect such clothing to be clean and tidy, typical of what is acceptable in an adult, corporate environment.

Look the part

General Principles: 

• Clothing must be professional or smart-casual attire; 
• Clothing should be clean and in a good state of repair; 
• Caps (baseball), or hoods are not to be worn
• Shoulders and midriffs should be covered (i.e. no strappy tops or vests)
• Length of skirts, dresses and shorts – when your arms are straight to your sides your fingertips should not come past the end of your clothing
• Trousers and jeans should be full length and free of tears/rips
• Plain leggings and jeggings are acceptable ONLY if worn under a dress or long shirt or tunic.
• Hair should be neat and tidy. No extreme hairstyles/unnatural colours are allowed; 
• Unless otherwise stipulated for health and safety reasons (e.g. in workshops PE), jewellery may be worn (facial piercings must be removed); 
• Nail varnish and acrylic nails are allowed, but nails must be kept to a reasonable length for health and safety reasons. 

Dress the part

The following attire is acceptable: 

• Shirts; 
• Smart polo shirts; 
• Smart Casual t-shirts;
• Blouses/smart tops (necklines should not reveal cleavage);
• Blouses/tops/ dresses/ skirts;
• Smart denim jeans;
• Smart, tailored, plain Bermuda shorts (in summer);
• Smart shoes/sandals. Trainers are permitted;
• Hooded sweatshirts (hoodies).

The following attire is not acceptable:

• football tops/ tops with large or offensive slogans;
• modest clothing
• ripped or distressed denim jeans ;
• leather ‘looking’ trousers;
• tracksuit or jogging bottoms (unless taking part in practical PE lessons);
• denim or sports shorts;
• flip flops or high heels
• baseball caps/ hats 
• leggings

Consequences

Consequences of not following the dress code:

• Inappropriate clothing or footwear will result in the student receiving a phone call home.
• If a student does wear clothing or footwear deemed inappropriate for school the student may be sent home to change clothes by one of the Sixth Form team.
• Failure to comply with these requests will result in further formal sanctions.
• Accepting and adhering to our dress code remains a condition of entry.
